Ngamba island chimpanzee sanctuary

Navigate the tranquil Lake Victoria waters en route Ngamba Island with outback adventure safaris for a day or night trip. Ngamba island sanctuary is home to 49 chimpanzees rescued throughout Uganda. This visit will provide you with an exceptional experience with these apes like chimp feeding and chimp nest preparation. If you are interested in having an over night at Ngamba Island, we will organise and  let you try out activities like taking a sunset cruise on lake Victoria, sport fishing with the outback team which will make you discover  other islands on lake Victoria making you feel like a self-made explorer, community cultural experience and overnight borne fires.

Discovering first-hand what it takes to care for 49 chimpanzees living in a sanctuary setting where they have 95 acres of forest to roam every day. See how much food they eat, meet the team who care for them and watch chimpanzee social behavior up close from a viewing platform that overlooks the forest.

How you will get there

Speedboat travel from the dock in Entebbe to Ngamba Island is approximately 45-50 minutes; travel by traditional motorized canoe takes approximately 90 minutes and by air it’s approximately 20 minutes from Entebbe Airport or Kajjansi Air strip.
