All the water sources work together to create a piece of spectacular scenery. It is quite a remarkable ecosystem. The Park was obviously named after River Kagera. As you enter the park, you are welcomed by lots of wildlife roaming the savannah-like, Zebras, buffalos, Roan Antelopes, bushbucks, Hynes, Topis, Klipspringers, Olive Baboons, Vervet monkeys, oribis, and much more. For bird lovers, you will tick most of your Bird checklist because of birds like red-faced barbets, swamp flycatchers, shoebill storks, fish eagles, Grey-backed Fiscals, Cattle Egret, Black-headed & Viellot’s Black Weavers, Hamerkop, Pied Crow, Sacred & Hadada Ibis, Long-crested Eagle, Augur Buzzard can be found in Akagera National park.
The options for Accommodation in Akagera range from upmarket to midrange lodges, such as Mgashi lodge (http://Mgashilodge Akagera), Rwizi Tent lodge(http://Rwizi tented lodge), and Akagera game lodge, all with spectacular views of the surrounding lakes, rivers, and the savannah plains.
Surrounded by cultivated hills, that are so much a part of Rwanda’s scenery, the scenery of Akagera National Park is quite simply beautiful. The landscape is low, composed of wide plains dominated by grass, cactus-like Euphorbia candelabra shrub, and both thick and thin forests although it does carry on with the general rugged terrain that is so characteristic of Rwanda.
